On June 29th 2017, God provided a miracle. The Parrish Family believes the fact that not one but 2 separate off duty Heroes stopped to help their parents before firefighters and EMS could arrive is one of the reasons Mom survived life threatening injuries.
Van Elmore - an off duty Alachua County Firefighter - was on his way to get dog food when he came upon the accident scene. He went immediately to Mom's side, talking with her and instructing her not to move and that help was coming.
David Weeks - an off duty EMS for Bradford County - was in his personal truck when he heard the emergency call came over the radio. He could tell the severity of the accident and knew he could get there before on-duty first responders. He could have left when first responders arrived, however, seeing how bad Mom and Dad were injured, he left his truck parked in the grass on the side of US 301 and climbed into the ambulance to be an extra set of hands for the 30-40 minute ride to Shands/UF Health Gainesville.
God gave us a miracle that day in the form of 2 Heroes off-duty Heroes, plus an army of first responders, doctors, nurses, trauma professionals, medical transport drivers, physical therapists, home healthcare, medical suppliers, and so many more. Saying THANK YOU will never be enough for all who served Mom in the first hours and the endless days spent in ICU and her long road to recovery.
The Parrish/Walker Family will be forever grateful.
